Honoring D-Day: Major General James Earl Rudder
Today in History: Major James Rudder graduated from Texas A&M University in 1932 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army reserves. He spent his time in the Army training U.S. Army Rangers for one of D-Day's most dangerous missions: Taking Pointe du Hoc. On the morning of June 6th, 1944, Allied forces staged one of the most enormous assaults on German positions on the beaches of Normandy, France. During the bloody assault, over half of Rudders men were killed or severely wounded. Rudder himself was shot in the leg. However, the high ground was seized, and the German guns were silenced, declaring American Victory.

Congressman Poe with Greggrie O’Garro- Naval Academy Graduate
Greggrie O’Garro received my nomination to the United States Naval Academy in 2011. On the 27th he will be commissioned, serving as a surface warfare officer. His future plans included serving as a chaplain after his commitment is fulfilled. At the service academy, I noticed that he was a leader among his classmates. I am very proud of him and know that he will represent the United States and Texas well. Congratulations on your graduation Greggrie!
