Congressman Ted Poe (TX-02) announces that Congress voted to override the Presidents veto of the Water Resources Development Act Reauthorization (WRDA), which included an amendment filed by Poe to fast track the study for expansion of the Sabine Neches Waterway (SNWW).

This is great news for all of Southeast Texas and really the whole country, said Poe. The expansion of the Sabine Neches Waterway is vital to the economy and security of the entire nation. Southeast Texas is home to the largest energy and petrochemical industry in the United States. As the largest port for military cargo, the Port of Beaumont and the Sabine-Neches Waterway should be recognized as the energy and military gateway to the United States.

The amendment authored by Poe directs the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) to fast track the completion of the study on the deepening and widening of the SNWW. Completing this study is the first step towards moving forward with the improvements to the SNWW. The SNWW deepening and widening study was started by the Army Corp of Engineers in 2000. Once the study is completed, appropriations for the physical movement of land can begin.

Congressman Poe serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation and member of the Congressional Port Security Caucus.
